FRED
If you need macro data for a paper or you just want to see what has been going
on with the numbers, look here first. The same numbers are available
elsewhere, but Federal Reserve
Bank of St. Louis (FRED) does the best job of providing easy access.
Plus, FRED automatically makes the best economics graphs.
BEA
The Bureau of Economic Analysis generates the GDP
numbers we see so often in the press.
BLS
The Bureau of Labor Statistics covers the labor
market and consumer prices and has the best
links to other government sources.
CIS
If you need a term paper idea, this is place to look. The Congressional
Information Service is a printed indexing and abstraction service for
Congressional publications. (CIS is available through Lexus/Nexus at many
schools.) The content is serious economics without the
math found in economics journals. Plus, almost everything Congress
considers is an interesting issue.
RFE
You will either start or end your search with
Resources for Economists on the Internet. If it is not listed here,
you probably do not want it.
